- Florida Sting Operation Busted 13 Contractors Without Workers’ Comp
Unlicensed contractors, all without proper workers’ compensation insurance on their workers, have been charged in another law enforcement sting operation in Florida, authorities said. The state’s chief financial officer and the Pasco County Sheriff’s office announced Thursday that 13 people were arrested after a sting in Tarpon Springs in April. The news release did not explain how the operation worked, but in previous stings, authorities have advertised for bids on construction work, posing as property owners. Eight Florida men have been charged with contracting without a license and failing to obtain workers’ compensation insurance, after a sting operation led by state and local authorities. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Financial Services did not provide details about the sting operation. But in previous stings, conducted around Florida about twice a year, authorities have advertised for construction services.
