Class Code:
4024
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 4024 is applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of refractory products such as, but not limited to, the products set forth in this classification's footnote. All products contemplated within the scope of this classification are manufactured from refractory clays with or without other refractory materials such as silica, magnesite, dolomite, bauxite, etc. Refractory clays and other refractory materials as well as enameling materials are received from others. Refractory clay products are very frequently manufactured in the same plant that makes fire bricks. The processes may vary somewhat from a mechanical standpoint but, in general, the processes and operations are analogous. Code 4024 contemplates grinding, screening and mixing of the refractory materials. The partly fluid substance is mechanically poured into standard or specially shaped molds depending upon the product being produced. Drying is done in dry rooms or on hot floors and a great deal of care is required in laying the forms to prevent defects. After removal of the forms, baking is done in kilns.
