Code 3220 is applicable to insureds engaged in the manufacture of cans of various sizes provided that the cans are manufactured from light-gauge metal. For purposes of this scope, light- gauge metal is defined as metal having a gauge greater than 11. The manufacture of cans from heavy- gauge metal is assigned to the appropriate metal products manufacturing class based on the nature of the metal used and the manufacturing process. Certain classifications direct that “Can (or metal container) mfg. is to be separately rated as Code 3220.” Examples of this include but are not limited to Codes 2111, 2112, 2143, 4611, 4825 and 6504. In the event that these risks manufacture heavy- gauge cans, the can manufacturing operation is assigned to a metal products manufacturing code, not Code 3220.
