Class Code:
1473
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 1473 is assigned to insureds who remove resins or turpentine from wood, leaving it in its identifiable state. First growth stumps are ground into matchstick-sized pieces using a “wood hog” and a hammermill shredder. The wood is placed in large extractor tanks of hot petroleum solvent (naphtha) to dissolve the resin and turpentine. The chips are removed from the extractor tanks and steamed to recover additional solvent, resin, and turpentine. The spent wood chips are burned to produce steam for the operation. The resinous solution is refined using vertical evaporators and fractional stills. Crude turpentine is taken off the resin through the distillation process. An analytical laboratory is maintained to identify the specific products manufactured and to maintain quality.
