Code 1164 is applied to all employees engaged in underground mining involving the extraction of ores, stone, clay or other minerals. The classification contemplates shaft sinking, slope sinking, rock tunneling or other incidental development work for the production of metal when done by the operator's employees. The ore rock is broken out by drilling and blasting with explosives. The equipment generally involves the use of rock drills, haulage locomotives and cars, hoisting equipment, ventilation equipment, air compressors, air and water pipes, electrical equipment, timber, track and miscellaneous steel.
