Code 4774 is applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of smokeless powder and includes the manufacture of pyro or nitro-cotton. This classification is restricted to the manufacture of single-base powders. The inclusion of the manufacture of pyro or nitro-cotton serves as a recognized basis for distinguishing between commercial pyroxylin, which has a nitrogen content of less than 12.5%, and the more highly nitrated products which serve as the base of smokeless powders.
