Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 4741 is applied to insureds engaged principally in asphalt or tar distilling or refining to produce commercial asphalt or tar. The classification further includes the incidental manufacture of products utilizing the distilled or refined asphalt or tar including the saturation of paper or felt. Natural Trinidad asphalt, coal-tar oil, low-grade crude oil or petroleum distillate, paper, felt, buckets or drums are received from others. Coal-tar oil, crude oil or petroleum distillate is refined in heated stills to extract the asphalt or tar. The production of commercial asphalt by treating natural Trinidad asphalt principally for the purpose of lowering its melting point also falls within the scope of Code 4741. Some commercial asphalt or tar is placed in drums for shipment while some may be mixed and blended to produce miscellaneous products such as emulsified asphalt, asphalt roofing compound and roofing paper or felt which is saturated with asphalt or tar.
