Class Code: 4113
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
"Code 4113 is applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of cut glass. The forming and finishing operations of cut glass manufacturers are performed by hand and require skilled workmanship. Silica sand, soda ash, lime, sodium nitrate, lead, niter metal oxides of copper, manganese, iron nickel, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid, abrasive oxides, paper and cardboard packing materials are received from others. The precise amounts of the required raw materials are dumped by hand into mixing tumblers and poured into hopper cars. The batch is fed into a furnace and a "Gatherer" inserts a hollow metal rod into the furnace and collects a blob of molten glass. He hands this to the "Blower," who proceeds to use breath action to form the article. A "Finisher" takes over and twists and further forms the piece using a hand tool. The product, as it slowly cools, hardens and the glass is then scored, and a sharp flame directed around the score lines cracks off the excess glass. The edges are ground and reheated. Certain runs of glassware, bowls, pitchers and art ware may be further cut and etched. Following inspection, the cut glass products are washed and dried and packaged for shipment."
